Why we collected this quote
The perfect opener. Anakin says it at the controls of a starfighter in the middle of a battle, completely calm, almost delighted – and it sets the tone for everything Revenge of the Sith does with his character before everything goes wrong. We love this line because it’s pure joy, uncomplicated and alive, and it hits harder knowing what’s coming.
What does this quote mean? (Meaning & Context)
The Battle of Coruscant opens the film with Anakin and Obi-Wan flying straight into a massive space engagement to rescue Chancellor Palpatine from General Grievous’s flagship. Anakin – a master pilot in his element – spots the chaos ahead and greets it like an old friend. For one brief moment at the very start of the final prequel, Anakin Skywalker is exactly who he should have been.
Fun facts & Trivia
Story contrast: “This is where the fun begins” became one of Anakin’s most quoted lines in the prequel era – partly because it opens the film on such an infectious note of confidence, and partly because the film it opens ends in one of the most devastating places in the saga. The contrast is entirely intentional.
Quote callback/parallel: Han Solo says almost the exact same line in the original Star Wars movie, Episode IV: A New Hope (1777). He says: “Here’s where the fun begins.” He says it as the Millennium Falcon is leaving Mos Eisley and four Imperial starships start chasing them. Han flips on the switches, looks back at Luke and Obi-Wan, and delivers the line with that classic Harrison Ford smirk. By giving the exact same line to Anakin in Revenge of the Sith, George Lucas created a beautiful parallel between the saga’s two hotshot, overconfident pilots when they are both completely in their element.
