Nick Nelson: I was thinking... What if I came out?
Charlie Spring: Do you really want to?
Nick Nelson: I really want to. I know I've been pretty unsure of everything for a while, but, like, I'm definitely bisexual. And I don't want to have to sneak around pretending we're platonic BFFs. I'm not saying I want to have a public announcement or anything, but... I want to tell the people who matter. And I want you to be able to tell people too.
Nick Nelson: I know people have hurt you. And you feel like I'd be better off without you, but... I need you to know that my life is way better because I met you.
Charlie Spring: You don't have to say that.
Nick Nelson: I do. And I'll keep on saying it until you believe me. Look, I don't care about getting into fights or pissing off my mates or anything like that. It's all worth it to be with you. You are the kindest, most thoughtful and caring and amazing person in the whole world, and if you really want to break up, then I would respect your decision, but I want us to be together.
Charlie Spring: Nick...
Nick Nelson: You're my favorite person, I need you to believe me.
Charlie Spring: Nick. I believe you. I believe you.
Tao Xu: I've known Charlie since we were 11, and he's always had a tendency to believe that him just existing is annoying for other people.
Nick Nelson: Yeah. I sort of got that impression.
Tao Xu: He's not going to force you to come out. Which is good. He would literally never tell you this, but he probably wants to be something more than "secret guy you kiss sometimes on the down-low." And if you can't give him more than that then... I mean, that's fine, but it's always gonna make him feel a little bit crap about himself.
Charlie Spring: Before I met Nick, I was sort of going out with this other guy. I liked him, but... he made me feel like I was ruining his life. Like he didn't want me to even exist. And now Nick's lost all his friends, and he's getting into fights because of me. And I just feel like maybe I do just ruin people's lives. And it would be better if I didn't exist.
(Charlie cries and Tori hugs him)
Tori Spring: You're not ruining my life.
Nick Nelson: I kind of got into a fight. With Harry. After you left and I went back to the group, he... he started saying some... things about you. I just lost it. And punched him, and... yeah.
Charlie Spring: Nick. You didn't have to do that. I promise, I'm used to people saying stuff about me.
Nick Nelson: No, but you shouldn't have to be. People shouldn't be saying stuff about you in the first place. You shouldn't have to put up with anything like that.
Tara Jones: Everything's changed.
Darcy Olsson: Since we came out?
Tara Jones: Yeah.
Darcy Olsson: Do you... regret it?
Tara Jones: No. I just wasn't prepared for things to change. I didn't... I didn't think so many people would suddenly think I'm a completely different person.
Darcy Olsson: They don't think that.
Tara Jones: They do. It's different for me. You came out years ago. I'm not loud and confident about being a lesbian. I could barely say the word lesbian when we started going out, and now I've got people on my Instagram, like, "Oh, my God, you're a lesbian." People giving me funny looks in the corridors. I wasn't prepared for any of it. I don't know how to behave anymore and... I just want to live my life. You're so confident about your sexuality, and I still feel like I know nothing.
Darcy Olsson: Hey, I don't know anything either. I don't know anything about anything.
Tara Jones: I just want to live my life.
Darcy Olsson: We can do that.
(On the group chat...)
Darcy Olsson: Tao and Elle should come to our double date.
Nick Nelson: Wait, are they dating?
Darcy Olsson: Not YET they're not.
Charlie Spring: Do Tao and Elle like each other???
Tara Jones: Elle definitely likes Tao.
Darcy Olsson: And they'd make such a good couple!!!
Charlie Spring: Btw they don't know me and Nick are together.
Tara Jones: That's okay!! We won't say anything.
Nick Nelson: So now it's a triple date?
Charlie Spring: And Tao and Elle don't know it's a date at all...
Darcy Olsson: We are such meddling gays and I love it.
Nick Nelson: Do you ever feel like you're only doing things because everyone else is? And you're scared to change? Or do something that might confuse or surprise people? Your real personality has been, like... buried inside you for a really long time. I guess, um, that's how I've been feeling recently. Sorry, that probably makes no sense.
Imogen Heaney: No. I think I get it. Thanks. For being honest.
