Why we collected this quote
We love this exchange because it’s pure Obi-Wan and Anakin at their most enjoyable – quick, warm banter between a master who can’t quite hide his pride and an apprentice who can’t quite hide his arrogance. It’s witty, funny, and one of our favourite examples of how well Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen work together in their lighter moments.
What does this quote mean? (Meaning & Context)
Obi-Wan and Anakin are riding a Coruscant speeder in pursuit of Padmé’s would-be assassin. Despite the urgency of the chase, they still find time for a jab and a comeback – Obi-Wan’s backhanded compliment about Anakin’s wit landed perfectly by Anakin’s confident “I thought I already did,” only to be effortlessly deflated by Obi-Wan’s closing line.

Fun facts & Trivia
This exchange was one of several bits of light banter added during production to establish the warmth and camaraderie between Obi-Wan and Anakin – making their eventual falling-out in Revenge of the Sith all the more painful. The chemistry between McGregor and Christensen in these scenes is widely considered the strongest aspect of Attack of the Clones.
