Why we collected this quote
One of the great dramatic irony lines in the whole saga. We love it because it’s funny on the surface – classic Obi-Wan exasperation – and absolutely devastating in hindsight. Said in the first act of Attack of the Clones, it haunts the entire prequel trilogy with a kind of gallows humour that only gets heavier as the films go on.
What does this quote mean? (Meaning & Context)
This comes immediately after the lightsaber scolding, delivered as Obi-Wan watches Anakin’s retreating back with a mixture of fondness and genuine weariness. It’s the kind of thing a long-suffering teacher says when they half-mean it as a joke – except that in Revenge of the Sith, the joke stops being funny entirely.

Fun facts & Trivia
Ewan McGregor has said this is one of his favourite lines in the prequel trilogy precisely because of the dramatic irony built into it. He knew when he delivered it that the audience would remember it later – and that made the performance feel more layered than a simple comedy beat.
