We chose this because it’s such a cute and touching line showing Shane thinking of Ilya even when he’s in pain. It’s a memorable moment of selflessness.
What does this quote mean? (Meaning & Context)
Shane gets hurt on the ice and, while being taken away by EMTs, he tries to tell them to let Ilya know he’s fine. They can’t understand him as he’s dazed and him mentioning his rival would be the last thing they would’ve guessed.
Book vs TV Series
In the book, Shane is all blurry, but can hear Ilya asking about him nearby, all worried. Tries to call out to him, but is not sure if he actually said the word “Ilya” aloud. Ilya is hovering above him, when Shane tells him in slurred speech: “We’re not alone, Ilya. They can see us.” After that Shane does say the same line “Tell him I’m fine,” but there is chaos of others trying to bring him out, so it’s unsure if anyone heard either of those things.
